Authorities were initially called to a residence on August 31, 2025, where they found the infant in critical condition with severe injuries. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the child succumbed to these injuries a few days later. Detectives learned that Espinoza was the sole caregiver for his son at the time of the incident.
Following the medical examiner's homicide determination on February 25, 2026, police apprehended Espinoza on March 5, 2026. He is facing charges of murder and child abuse and is being held on a bond exceeding $1 million. Espinoza's next court appearance was scheduled for March 12, 2026.
