A 61-year-old pharmacy technician, Tanya Petrie from Worle, has been sentenced to six years and three months in prison for her role in a smuggling operation at HMP Bristol. Petrie was convicted on February 16, 2026, after a jury found her guilty of conspiring to bring prohibited items into the prison. This followed her arrest on October 17, 2023, when officers observed her collecting a package from a wheelie bin outside a Bristol property. The package contained cocaine, class B drugs, and tobacco.
Further investigation uncovered a wider conspiracy involving prisoner Kyle Joyner and Casey Collins. Joyner was found to be using a phone linked to Collins within the prison. Both Joyner and Collins pleaded guilty to conveying prohibited items and received sentences of three years and two years and four months respectively in January 2025. Avon and Somerset Police emphasized that such actions fuel violence and undermine prison security.
