Perth Pharmacist Illegally Dispensed Strong Drugs
18 Jul
Summary
- Pharmacist dispensed nearly 300 strong painkillers and anxiety medications.
- Controlled drugs were dispensed without a valid prescription.
- False records were created to conceal the illicit dispensing.

A pharmacist in Perth has faced disciplinary action following the discovery of her illicit dispensing of strong painkillers and anxiety medication. Gemma Louise Latter, formerly of Wizard Pharmacy in Carramar, dispensed nearly 300 pills to herself between April 2024 and January 2025. These medications included controlled substances, identified as Schedule 8 drugs, which carry a high risk of misuse and dependence.
Latter, a graduate of Curtin University, facilitated this by creating fabricated records. She used the name of an acquaintance to dispense medications such as zolpidem, used for insomnia, and tramadol, an opioid for chronic pain. This misconduct represents a serious breach of pharmaceutical ethics and patient safety protocols.
