Piran Ditta Khan, responsible for the 2005 murder of PC Sharon Beshenivsky in Bradford, died in prison from lung cancer less than a year after his conviction. He received a 40-year minimum sentence in May 2024, having evaded capture for nearly two decades.
Khan orchestrated an armed robbery at a Bradford travel agents, which resulted in PC Beshenivsky being fatally shot. He fled to Pakistan at age 57 and remained at large until his arrest in 2020 and subsequent extradition to the UK in 2023.
Khan was the final member of the seven-person gang involved in the robbery to be convicted. He was found guilty of murder and firearms offenses. His death on February 21, 2025, occurred while undergoing chemotherapy for stage four lung cancer, with the official cause being bronchial pneumonia linked to cancer.
