Body in Suitcase: Suffocation Confirmed in Pattaya Death

In Pattaya, Thailand, authorities have confirmed that a 17-year-old girl, identified as Tunchanok Donhomla, died from suffocation. Her body was found discovered in a suitcase near a railway track on June 27.

This discovery occurred just 15 minutes after the arrest of Simon Peter Carman, a 45-year-old Australian national. Police reported Carman was apprehended as he was allegedly preparing to flee the country.

Autopsy results revealed suffocation as the cause of death, with additional brain injury noted, possibly sustained after death during the body's movement. DNA found on Tunchanok's body matched Carman's, likely transferred when her body was placed in the suitcase.

Carman faces charges including murder, kidnapping, and indecent assault. He initially admitted to taking the victim out but later claimed self-defense, alleging a dispute over payment for sexual services. CCTV footage reportedly shows Carman entering a condominium with Tunchanok and later leaving alone with a large suitcase.

The investigation is nearing completion, with police intending to submit the case to prosecutors by Friday. The victim's family is deeply grieving, with her stepmother expressing a strong desire for the maximum penalty for the accused. If convicted of murder, Carman could face the death penalty.
