Patna Police Launch Master Plan for Safer Trains
24 Dec
Summary
- New rail police station and five crime control centers planned.
- Plan aims to reduce response times to incidents on trains.
- Vast jurisdictions of current stations hamper rapid police reach.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Patna is set to significantly improve passenger safety and crime prevention on trains through a new master plan. This strategy involves creating a new railway police station and establishing five crime control centers in key areas.
This initiative is a direct response to numerous incidents occurring on trains and at stations, often exacerbated by the vast geographical areas covered by current railway police stations. Some police station jurisdictions span up to 59 km, making it difficult for officers to reach remote locations quickly. Criminals have reportedly exploited these response delays.
The proposed crime control centers are planned for Harnaut, Sadisopur, Bihiya, Dumraon, and Digha Bridge. A new police station is specifically proposed for Pahadpur, situated between Gaya Junction and Dilwa, to enable immediate intervention and bolster passenger security in that sensitive stretch.
