Pastor Rashad Singletary delivered Easter Sunday services at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Turner Station, demonstrating remarkable resilience just five days after being shot. He arrived using a wheeled walking device and with a cast on his leg, visibly moved by the congregation's outpouring of support.
Singletary recounted the incident, which occurred late Wednesday evening in west Baltimore. As he stepped outside to move his car, a young man emerged from bushes and demanded his keys, subsequently firing a single shot from a 9mm handgun.
Doctors informed Singletary that the bullet fractured his foot but did not cause significant bone damage, with an expected recovery time of one month. Despite the traumatic experience, he preached with renewed spirit, celebrating his survival and faith.
Mercedes Sneed, a congregation member and Singletary's godmother, described his return as a "miracle," embodying the spirit of Easter. Singletary, who previously worked in community violence intervention, stated he had already forgiven his assailant.
He urged understanding for individuals involved in high-risk activities, emphasizing the importance of mercy despite the pain caused. Singletary's message highlighted his ability to forgive and his gratitude for surviving the ordeal unharmed beyond his injury.
