A former youth pastor, David Vander Meer, 49, has died in custody at the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas. His death was confirmed by a judge on Thursday during a scheduled extradition hearing.
Vander Meer was arrested on Monday by U.S. marshals in connection with the death of his first wife, Bernadette Vander Meer. She fell to her death in Zion National Park on August 22, 2006.
At the time of her death, the incident was ruled an accident. However, investigators reportedly felt the circumstances were suspicious. Vander Meer died from injuries he self-sustained while in jail.
