The animal abuse trial for a Parkland County woman, Patricia Moore, recommenced on Thursday, September 11, 2026, with expert testimony. A veterinarian, Dr. Megan Moody, who was engaged by the SPCA, detailed the condition of horses seized from Moore's property on April 14, 2025.
Dr. Moody testified that several horses were severely malnourished, and nearly all suffered from neglected hooves, with some being critically lame. She observed no hay and pastures grazed bare, recommending the seizure of eight horses, including a newborn foal, due to their poor health.
In addition to the live animals, skeletal remains of five horses, ranging from a foal to older equines, were found on the property. During cross-examination, the defense suggested alternative causes for the horses' condition, but Dr. Moody emphasized that proper nutrition could have prevented many issues.
Victoria Powell, who resided with Moore from October to November 2024, also testified. She stated Moore believed Moore owned the approximately 20 horses and mentioned Moore was away for about 20 days, during which Powell was asked to provide only water for the horses, not food.
