Summary
- Shili Chen's lawyers argue she was unaware of husband's murder plan.
- Chen claims she only fired a gun after her husband had already shot McKinsey.
- The couple is seeking pretrial release amid murder charges.

Shili Chen, 77, and her husband Shouyong Zhang, arrested for the murder of their son-in-law Jonathan McKinsey, are making new legal claims. Chen's lawyers argue she was unaware of Zhang's plot to kill McKinsey, stating she was kept 'in the dark.'
According to new filings, Chen claims she only exited her car to protect her husband from an alleged assault by McKinsey. Surveillance footage reportedly shows her firing a gun after Zhang had already inflicted the fatal shots at the Dublin Sports Grounds.
Zhang allegedly confessed to the shooting after being shown video evidence. He reportedly told police he asked his wife to drive to the park but did not explain his reasons. Prosecutors maintain the couple lay in wait for McKinsey.
Both Chen and Zhang are seeking pretrial release. Chen's defense argues she was not the 'actual killer' as McKinsey was already deceased when she fired. The couple faces charges related to the killing, which occurred amid a bitter divorce and custody battle involving their daughter, Candice Jang.
