Two ambulance service members have been commended for their exceptional bravery after confronting armed attackers to save a stabbing victim. The East of England Ambulance Service team responded to a call in Cambridge during the summer.
Medical technician Stephen Hughes and care assistant Lewis Smith entered the property believing it was secure, only to find the attackers inside, one of whom was armed. Despite the danger, they extracted the patient to the safety of their ambulance, where they were later joined by operations manager Jared Walbridge.
These acts of courage were recognized in a ceremony, highlighting the staff's professionalism and dedication. The patient made a full recovery and was discharged from the hospital shortly after the incident. A police investigation into the stabbing is ongoing.
