Summary

- He is also accused of stealing credit cards and IDs from patients.
- Melady allegedly recorded the sexual assault while on duty.

A former paramedic, James Melady, is scheduled for trial this month concerning serious allegations including the sexual assault of an unconscious patient. The incident allegedly occurred in October 2021 while Melady was transporting the victim to a hospital. The discovery of a video recording allegedly depicting the assault, which happened while Melady was on duty and in uniform, came to light during a separate police investigation.
Further investigations revealed a pattern of alleged criminal activity beyond the assault. Authorities have charged Melady with defrauding multiple patients by stealing their credit cards and personal identification information. He is accused of exploiting individuals during medical emergencies to fund fraudulent purchases, including a significant transaction at Sam's Club. Three victims have reportedly been identified in relation to these financial crimes.
