A paramedic, Natalie Twomey, has been removed from the professional register after fabricating a family illness to secure time off work. Twomey emailed London Ambulance Service (LAS) bosses on November 28, 2022, stating her sister's health had worsened, necessitating a drive to Norfolk. However, social media posts from her sister's Facebook account, showing Christmas decorations on the same day, contradicted this claim.
The Health and Care Professions Tribunal deemed her actions deceitful for personal gain, finding she deliberately misled her employer. This incident compounded previous issues, including being removed from front-line duties in June 2023 for attending work smelling of alcohol and failing to disclose practice restrictions while renewing her registration.
Further dishonesty emerged, including providing false reasons for non-patient facing duties and misrepresenting her employment history during a subsequent job interview. After a conviction for driving under the influence in April 2024, the panel concluded her conduct amounted to severe misconduct, resulting in a Striking Off Order.
