Panchkula Police Intensify Patrols, Deploy Special Teams to Tackle Campus Harassment

In response to recent reports of harassment near the NIFT campus in Panchkula, the local police have taken swift action to address the issue and ensure the safety of female students. On October 24th, 2025, Police Commissioner Sibash Kabiraj ordered immediate and strict action against any offenders.

Since then, the police have implemented several measures to bolster security in the area. DCP Srishti Gupta stated that police patrols have been significantly increased, and a special team of bike riders has been deployed to monitor the campus and surrounding areas. Additionally, the Durga Shakti Rapid Force, consisting of four members including two women officers, is conducting daily patrols to specifically focus on women's safety.

The police are also taking a proactive approach by engaging directly with the community. Women police station SHO Rajesh Kumari and Chandimandir SHO Rampal have been personally visiting the area, meeting with students, shopkeepers, hostel wardens, and security staff to assure them of prompt police assistance whenever needed. Parking zones, cafés, and other public spaces with a high student presence are also under strict surveillance.

To further strengthen their response, the police have launched a 'Surakshit Sangini' WhatsApp group to connect directly with NIFT students, enabling quick communication and friendly engagement in times of need. They have also urged students to immediately call the emergency number 112 if they experience any incidents of harassment or misconduct.

Alongside these measures, the police are conducting interactive safety sessions in girls' hostels, PG accommodations, cafés, and marketplaces to educate and empower the community.
