A 40-year-old police constable, Sharad Bhogade, has been arrested in Palghar following accusations of raping a 21-year-old woman. The victim had initially visited the Kasa police station seeking assistance related to an affair.
Sources indicate the assault occurred on the constable's third or fourth visit to the station, allegedly after he gained her confidence. The incident reportedly took place in the constables' room on the police station premises. The case, initially registered at Dahanu police station, was forwarded to Kasa for further inquiry.
Palghar SP Yatish Deshmukh took swift action, arresting Bhogade and transferring senior Kasa police station officer Avinash Mandale to headquarters to ensure a transparent investigation. An FIR has been lodged against the accused, who was remanded to three-day police custody.
