26 Feb
Summary
- Three family members arrested after a two-year investigation into child abuse.
- Victims subjected to extreme neglect, including a 'crib cage' and car seat confinement.
- A medical professional defined the abuse as meeting the 'definition of child torture'.

Authorities in Newberry Township, Pennsylvania, have arrested three individuals accused of severe child abuse and neglect. The investigation, which began in March 2024, uncovered a pattern of abuse lasting two years. The mother, grandmother, and uncle now face multiple charges, including aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children.
A medical professional from Penn State Health's Child Protective Team determined the abuse met the specific medical definition of 'child torture,' characterized by a sustained pattern of physical abuse and psychological maltreatment. This severe neglect impacted all aspects of the children's lives, causing significant physical, emotional, and developmental harm.
During the investigation, authorities learned that an 8-year-old boy had been confined to a homemade 'crib cage' made of stacked cribs, straps, and zip ties, surrounded by filth. His 6-year-old sister was frequently restrained in a car seat for nearly 24 hours daily. Both children suffered extreme malnourishment, developmental delays, and dental issues, while also not being toilet-trained. A third child, now 12, reported that the mother expressed hatred towards them. All three children have been removed from the home and placed in alternative living arrangements.
