- Operation Tramline resulted in 14 drivers caught using mobile phones.

A covert operation utilizing an unmarked lorry cab on the M5, A30, and A38 in Devon and Cornwall successfully apprehended numerous illegal drivers. The three-day initiative, named Operation Tramline, led to the identification of 14 individuals using their mobile phones while operating their vehicles.
Authorities reported that the National Highways HGV tractor unit also recorded an additional 21 offences. These violations encompassed issues such as not being in control of a vehicle, speeding, driving without due care, and operating without insurance.
Police and crime commissioners stressed the significant risks associated with dangerous driving behaviours. They highlighted that using a mobile phone behind the wheel markedly elevates the likelihood of collisions by impairing judgment and reaction times.
The tactic involved officers in an elevated cab position observing drivers, then relaying this information to ground units who intercepted the offending vehicles. Those caught using phones received six penalty points and a £200 fine, with continued operations planned to enhance road safety.
