Predator Posed as Teen Girl Online

In a concerning online sting, a registered sex offender was apprehended by Livingston Parish deputies while actively using voice-changing technology to impersonate a teenage girl. The 40-something-year-old suspect was engaging with a 14-year-old victim, who remained unaware of the predator's true identity.

This incident is part of a larger statewide initiative in Louisiana targeting online child predators. Attorney General Liz Murrill described the situation as a disturbing national trend, stressing the severe harm inflicted upon child victims. Louisiana has seen a significant number of tips concerning online child exploitation, leading to numerous arrests across the state.

The platform where the suspect operated, Roblox, faces lawsuits alleging it provides an environment for predators. However, the company disputes these claims, asserting its commitment to online safety through a combination of AI detection and human moderation, and stating that voice modulation is not a feature on its platform.
