Summary
- Athlete faces murder charges for allegedly stabbing Uber driver 60 times.
- Claimed self-defense, but prosecutors say attack was premeditated.
- Driver was partially paralyzed, making assault claim questionable.

Khayla Dawson, an Olympic hopeful from Colorado, has been charged with first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, and motor vehicle theft following the alleged stabbing death of Uber driver Jeremy Campbell. Dawson reportedly booked an Uber on October 26, 2025, for a late-night "joy ride." She claims she woke up to Campbell attempting to sexually assault her and defended herself by stabbing him.
Prosecutors dispute this account, presenting evidence that Dawson brought a kitchen knife and gloves, suggesting premeditation. A preliminary hearing on January 2, 2026, revealed that Campbell was partially paralyzed on his right side, making the self-defense claim questionable according to detectives.
Campbell's body was found in a field, and his vehicle was discovered at Dawson's apartment complex. During the investigation, Campbell's wallet and driver's license were found in Dawson's apartment. Dawson is currently held without bond, with her trial scheduled to begin on April 13, 2026.
