Facebook Post Leads to Killer's Arrest in Ohio Slaying

A social media post proved crucial in solving the murder of Michael James Corrigan, leading to the conviction of Janel Marie Nelson, 53. Nelson was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 18 years for fatally shooting Corrigan in his Beavercreek, Ohio, home on August 22, 2024.

Investigators identified Nelson as a suspect and tracked her to Omaha, Nebraska, after a woman posted a selfie with her on Facebook, revealing their reunion after 16 years. Authorities found Nelson at a church and, during questioning, she admitted to being with Corrigan shortly before his death. The .380 caliber murder weapon was later recovered from Nelson's vehicle.

Corrigan's family found him dead from a single gunshot wound after he failed to respond to calls and texts. Nelson, who described her relationship with the victim as "off and on," was arrested on multiple charges, including voluntary manslaughter and aggravated assault, before being extradited to Ohio to face sentencing.
