An 84-year-old woman, Alvera Meuti, tragically died of hypothermia after freezing to death outside the Avenue at Warrensville Care and Rehabilitation Center in Ohio on the evening of December 23, 2024. Her family has since filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the facility's owners and nurse Amber Henderson.
The lawsuit claims Meuti, who suffered from multiple health conditions, was not in her room during a 9:30 p.m. check, but no immediate action was taken to locate her. It further alleges that an exit door near her room was left unlocked, lacking a necessary alarm system.
Nurse Henderson reportedly discovered Meuti missing later that night and attempted to contact her family. Meuti was found unresponsive on a patio the following morning, unable to re-enter the facility. Henderson faces criminal charges, including involuntary manslaughter, to which she has pleaded not guilty.
