Authorities have issued arrest warrants for Brittany M. Stroud, 30, on charges including involuntary manslaughter, child endangerment, and drug possession. These charges stem from the death of her 17-month-old daughter, who was found unresponsive on October 13 in Orient, Ohio. Emergency responders attempted CPR before transporting the child to Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, where she was pronounced deceased.
An autopsy performed the following day revealed a fatal concentration of fentanyl in the toddler's system. Investigators learned that a court order had placed the child in the custody of her maternal grandmother, Tammy Stroud, 52, and had forbidden Brittany from having unsupervised contact with her daughter. Detectives secured evidence from the residence where the child was discovered.
Tammy Stroud, the child's grandmother, surrendered to authorities on October 18 and has been charged with complicity to involuntary manslaughter, complicity to child endangerment, and complicity to possession of a controlled substance. She was arraigned and her bond was set at $250,000. As of October 19, Brittany Stroud remained at large, with law enforcement seeking information regarding her whereabouts.
