A multi-county carjacking spree that began with stolen Corvettes concluded Wednesday in a deadly shootout, resulting in the suspect's death and a San Jose police sergeant being wounded. The sergeant, now in stable condition at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, expressed his first concern was for his dogs, an act lauded by Mayor Matt Mahan. The suspect, 30-year-old Mohamed Husien, allegedly initiated his crime spree on January 17th in Sacramento.
Authorities reported Husien stole a red Corvette before traveling to the Bay Area, where he committed numerous robberies. His violence escalated on Wednesday after he carjacked a green Corvette in San Jose. Automated license plate readers tracked the stolen vehicle, leading officers on a pursuit into San Benito County. The suspect abandoned the car, fired at officers, and carjacked another vehicle, leading to further pursuits and exchanges of gunfire with multiple agencies.
