Five months after an attack left him with life-altering injuries, Aurora Police Officer Mark Moore continues his recovery. The incident on April 9th saw Moore and his K-9 partner, Cyrus, stabbed while responding to a mental health crisis. Moore suffered a severed temporal artery, facial fractures, and other serious injuries, necessitating multiple surgeries, including a recent attempt at a cochlear implant.
Cyrus, Moore's loyal K-9, also sustained injuries and played a critical role in the officer's survival by diverting the attacker. While Moore is determined to return to the Aurora Police Department, he will not be able to continue as a K-9 officer due to his injuries. Cyrus, facing his own spinal issues, will be officially adopted by Moore after his retirement.
The MC-1 Foundation, a Colorado nonprofit supporting injured first responders, is providing assistance to Moore and his family. The foundation, named after fallen sheriff's Sgt. Dave Baldwin, highlights the challenges faced by injured survivors. A motorcycle fundraiser for the MC-1 Foundation is scheduled for Sunday, September 27th, to support Moore and other first responders.
