Officer Injured After Stolen Car Crash

A Durham Police officer sustained injuries during an incident involving a suspected stolen vehicle in Sunderland on Wednesday, August 12th. The event began shortly before 6:45 am in the Burdon area when police were alerted to a vehicle taken from a property. Officers located the vehicle in Cooperative Terrace shortly after 8:30 am. While an officer approached the vehicle on foot, it was driven away, colliding with an unrelated parked car and causing injury to the officer.

Following the collision, six boys aged between 13 and 17 were apprehended. They have since been released on police bail pending further inquiries. Northumbria Police is now seeking a specific male, seen in the area at the time of the incident, who they believe can assist with their investigation. Cooperative Terrace has since been reopened, with officers continuing to conduct enquiries and maintain public reassurance in the vicinity. Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Fenney urged anyone with further details to come forward.
