A Northamptonshire police officer, PC Gareth Middleton, has been convicted of two counts of sexual assault. The offenses, which occurred in 2021, involved him touching two women inappropriately at a house party. Middleton, 32, who is based in Kettering, has been suspended from his role.
The first incident involved him touching a woman sexually while sitting next to her on a sofa, prompting her to leave the party and report the assault. A second woman later came forward, detailing an inappropriate touching incident while she was dancing, which was captured on video.
Detective Chief Inspector Liz Basham praised the women for their bravery and highlighted the force's commitment to addressing violence against women and girls. Middleton will face an accelerated gross misconduct hearing and is due for sentencing on December 19.
