Gun Dealer Charged in ODU Campus Shooting
15 Mar
Summary
- Man arrested for selling gun used in campus shooting.
- Suspect knew shooter from work and sold gun for $100.
- Arrested dealer had prior warning for illegal firearm sales.

Kenya Chapman, a man from Smithfield, Virginia, has been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting at Old Dominion University (ODU). The Department of Justice announced Friday that Chapman is accused of selling the gun used by Mohamed Jalloh in the incident that left one person dead and two injured.
Court documents revealed that Chapman met Jalloh at work, and Jalloh claimed he needed the weapon for protection as a delivery driver. Chapman sold the gun for $100, despite Jalloh's 2016 conviction for attempting to aid ISIS. Phone records show Jalloh and Chapman had multiple conversations, including on the morning of the shooting.
Chapman has a history of illegal firearm dealings; two guns he previously sold were recovered from a Newport News homicide. Despite this, he received only a warning. He now faces federal charges for dealing firearms without a license and making false statements during firearm purchases, potentially leading to 35 years in prison.
