More than two months have passed since a shooting incident in an Oakdale, Minnesota, backyard resulted in a 33-year-old man sustaining life-threatening injuries. David Voss was hospitalized after being struck by gunfire while attending a backyard bonfire with family members in July.
His wife, April Heroff, who works in the medical field, described Voss's critical condition. He has undergone nine surgeries, including a recent skin graft, and remains dependent on intravenous nutrition as his body heals. His recovery is expected to include at least six months in a rehabilitation center.
Oakdale police initially arrested an individual, who was later released. Investigators have now identified a different person of interest and have seized firearms and ammunition from their residence. The department is awaiting analysis of evidence from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension's crime lab, a process expected to aid in moving the case forward and providing resolution for the victim's family.
