Responding to the girl's cries for help around 2 p.m. local time, the officers quickly assessed the situation and jumped into the river to pull her to safety.
Bodycam footage released by the NYPD captures the dramatic rescue, showing one officer removing his jacket and leaping into the frigid water to reach the distressed teen, who was about 20 feet from shore. Another officer carefully made his way along a narrow, concrete ledge to assist in the rescue, as the team worked together to lift the girl from the water.
The officers, identified as Ankit Gupta, Wilmer Guerrero, and Shuaibul Amine, were praised on Thursday for their quick response and exemplary teamwork in saving the girl's life. "I'm just glad that we were all there as a group. It was a team effort that gave her a second chance," said Officer Gupta, reflecting on the dramatic rescue.
