A Manhattan man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder of his younger sister. Rodney Johnson, 29, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of 20-year-old Shayla Johnson. The fatal incident occurred on July 19, 2023, when Johnson attacked his sister in their East Harlem apartment.
Prosecutors stated that Rodney Johnson followed Shayla into the bathroom and repeatedly stabbed her. Their mother, present in the apartment, intervened and called emergency services. Johnson ceased the attack when his sister became unresponsive and fled the scene, only to be arrested shortly after.
The siblings reportedly had an ongoing conflict stemming from Rodney's alleged acts of violence. The Manhattan District Attorney's office expressed hope for the family's healing from this devastating tragedy.
