NYC Sues Dentists for Preying on Seniors
31 Jul
Summary
- Dental practices allegedly exploited seniors and low-income individuals.
- Patients were pressured into high-interest medical loans for dental work.
- A grandmother lost her teeth and independence after dental treatment.

New York City has filed a lawsuit against Canarsie Family Dentistry and New York Family Dentistry, accusing them of defrauding seniors and low-income New Yorkers. The practices are alleged to have pressured patients into taking out high-interest medical loans for dental work, sometimes while in the dental chair.
One 67-year-old grandmother reportedly had all her front teeth extracted and was convinced to take out an $18,000 loan for implants, despite being on Medicaid and Medicare. Her daughter stated that her mother has lost her teeth, her health, and her independence, significantly impacting her quality of life.
Canarsie Family Dentistry has denied the allegations, asserting they acted legally and in their patients' best interests. New York Family Dentistry has not yet responded. The city is petitioning the court to close the practices and ensure patients receive restitution for the alleged mistreatment and financial exploitation.
