14 Jun
Summary

A nurse, Sally Vickery-Aldred, has spoken out about the harrowing ordeal she faced at the hands of her controlling ex-partner, Mark Illsey. Their relationship, which began three years ago, devolved into a cycle of abuse. Illsey subjected Sally to constant late-night interrogations, accused her of cheating, and even fitted a tracker to her car.
On Valentine's Day in 2025, Illsey's jealousy led to a violent attack where he ripped her dress, threw her out of bed, and doused her with cold water. He also alienated her from friends and family, making her increasingly reliant on him. Illsey's abuse extended to targeting her weight and her career as an ICU nurse, falsely accusing her of misconduct.
The final assault occurred in May 2025 when Illsey flipped her out of bed, dragged her outside, and kicked her. Her mother's intervention after seeing her injuries led to the police being involved. Illsey was subsequently jailed for two years and 10 months at Preston Crown Court for controlling and coercive behavior, assault, and criminal damage.
Sally is now focused on recovery, engaging in running and hiking, and raising money for charities that supported her. She is sharing her story to raise awareness and encourage others trapped in abusive relationships to seek help, emphasizing that healing is possible.
