Summary
- Nursery worker found guilty of assault by beating.
- Toddler was picked up by arm like a 'bag of rubbish'.
- Mother lost trust after the incident, impacting confidence.

A nursery worker, Elizabeth Adeagbo, 29, was convicted of assault by beating after a trial at Sefton Magistrates' Court. The incident involved Adeagbo picking up a toddler by his arm, described in court as being 'like a bag of rubbish.' This occurred on April 16 last year when the child grabbed her trouser leg for attention.
The boy's mother discovered the incident hours later and took him to A&E, though thankfully no physical harm was found. She stated the event has caused her to lose trust and made her wary, highlighting the emotional toll of leaving young children in care.
CCTV footage showed the boy crying after being carried across the room. Adeagbo, an agency worker, claimed she lifted the child to avoid soaking him with her wet apron, though she admitted it was inappropriate. She had prior experience with children in Nigeria and at other UK nurseries without complaints.
Adeagbo will be sentenced on May 14 at Liverpool Magistrates' Court. The mother stressed the need for rigorous standards to ensure children's safety in nurseries.
