More than a year after Linda Campitelli was found dead, her former nursing colleague Rene J. Perez has been arrested and charged with her murder. Perez, 38, was arrested on Tuesday, March 10, in Miami in connection with Campitelli's killing on October 28, 2024. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office stated that Perez is charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence.
Campitelli, 35, was discovered on the evening of October 28, 2024, lying unresponsive on Lyons Road in Lantana. Her body was near an SUV registered to her husband, with evidence of dry blood leading away from the vehicle to where she was found. Injuries on her body were consistent with being dragged. The Medical Examiner's Office ruled her death a homicide due to blunt force trauma.
During the investigation, detectives learned of a potential romantic relationship between Campitelli and Perez, who had previously worked together. Text messages and communication logs revealed they discussed meeting on the night of her death. Cell phone records and location data eventually linked Perez to the crime, leading to his arrest. Perez has been booked into the Palm Beach County Jail.
