Nurse Washed Patient With 'Acid'

A healthcare professional, Andrew Davies, 62, has been removed from the nursing register following severe misconduct allegations. While caring for a patient identified as Patient A in intensive care at Prince Charles Hospital, Davies reportedly caused significant pain. The patient, who could only communicate through eye movements, alleged Davies used a substance that felt like 'acid' to clean his penis and tore electrodes from his chest.

Further accusations included Davies intimidating Patient A, telling him not to "f*****g roll your eyes at me" when this was the patient's sole means of expressing discomfort. A Nursing and Midwifery Council Panel found nine allegations against Davies proven, concluding they constituted serious misconduct. The panel accepted evidence from Patient A, his wife, and hospital staff, substantiating the patient's claims of harm.

Health Board officials confirmed that upon learning of the allegations in 2021, the agency nurse was immediately suspended. They assured that all professional, safeguarding, and regulatory procedures were followed. Davies, who worked with the Richmond Nursing Agency Ltd at the hospital between 2020 and 2021, denied the charges, but the panel's decision highlights a severe breach of patient care and trust.
