On August 11th, 2025, a violent incident occurred in Nottingham that has resulted in a lengthy prison sentence for the perpetrator. Abubakarr Haruna, a 39-year-old man with no fixed address, armed himself with a broken bottle and used it to slash another man's face in a brutal attack.
The attack took place in the early hours of the morning, with CCTV footage showing Haruna arguing with the victim before the assault. After the initial dispute, Haruna followed the man, retrieved two glass bottles from a nearby bin, and smashed one to use as a weapon. He then caught up with the victim in Wheeler Gate and slashed his face, leaving him with a serious injury that required surgical treatment.
Haruna has now been sentenced to an extended custodial term of 10 years and 8 months at Nottingham Crown Court. He will serve 6 years and 8 months in prison, followed by 4 years on license. Detective Sergeant Nigel Malik described Haruna's actions as "incredibly dangerous and cowardly," emphasizing that the attacker clearly intended to seriously harm his victim.
