After the initial dispute, Haruna followed the man, retrieved two glass bottles from a nearby bin, and smashed one to use as a weapon. He then caught up with the victim in Wheeler Gate and slashed his face, leaving him with a serious injury that required surgical treatment.
Haruna has now been sentenced to an extended custodial term of 10 years and 8 months at Nottingham Crown Court. He will serve 6 years and 8 months in prison, followed by 4 years on license. Detective Sergeant Nigel Malik described Haruna's actions as "incredibly dangerous and cowardly," emphasizing that the attacker clearly intended to seriously harm his victim.
