Northamptonshire Police have initiated a 'Walk and Talk' program, offering women aged 18 and above the opportunity to walk with officers and discuss their safety concerns. This program is designed to provide a platform for women living or working in the eastern part of the county to share their experiences and worries. The 30-minute walks will take place in areas where participants feel vulnerable, allowing police to gain a better understanding of community concerns.
The initiative, spearheaded by neighborhood officer Sgt Leigh Françoise, aims to directly address violence against women and girls by actively listening to their concerns. The police force emphasizes that patrols can occur in any location, including those with less footfall or lighting, to capture a realistic sense of public perception. This proactive approach seeks to build trust and ensure safety.
Scheduled throughout January to April, these events in areas like Rushden, Oundle, and Thrapston are open to all women in the region. The program draws inspiration from similar initiatives started in London following high-profile cases related to women's safety. Interested individuals are encouraged to email the neighbourhood team to participate.
