In Noida, three men, identified as Punit, Vivek, and Aman, have been sentenced to life imprisonment for conspiring to kill a coworker. The court found them guilty of abducting, assaulting, and strangling the victim, identified as Sumanjay, and subsequently hiding his body in a drain.
The motive behind the brutal act stemmed from a loan dispute, where one of the accused had used the victim's credit card and failed to make payments, causing the victim to demand repayment. An FIR was registered on December 11, 2023, after the victim's brother reported him missing after he was last seen with the accused. Police recovered the body from a drain based on the trio's confession.
After evidence collection and an autopsy, a chargesheet was filed on February 2, 2024. The court relied on circumstantial evidence, including the accused's confession corroborated by the post-mortem report confirming strangulation and signs of the body being dragged. The recovery of a handkerchief allegedly used for strangulation also played a role in the conviction. The court ruled that the accused's conduct, such as disconnecting a phone call from the victim's brother, indicated their involvement.
