19 Nov
Summary
- Husband sentenced to life imprisonment for wife's murder.
- Body found decomposed after being locked in home for months.
- Confession and recovered murder weapon proved crucial in conviction.

A man from Azamgarh has received a life sentence for murdering his wife, Anjali, and concealing her body in their Noida home since December 2022. The grim discovery occurred in January 2023 when neighbors reported a foul odor emanating from the locked residence, leading police to find the decomposed remains. The prosecution successfully argued that the accused used a griddle to inflict fatal injuries, with forensic reports confirming blood traces.
The court found the accused guilty of culpable homicide amounting to murder and concealing evidence, also imposing a Rs 1.2 lakh fine. While the accused denied the charges, claiming he was visiting his ailing father, the investigating officer's testimony regarding his confession proved pivotal. The recovery of the murder weapon, based on the accused's indication, was crucial evidence.
Judge Saurab Dwivedi cited Section 106 of the Indian Evidence Act, stating the onus was on the accused to explain the circumstances. The court noted that while police confessions aren't always credible, the recovery of the murder weapon validated the prosecution's case, leading to the conviction.
