Ex-gynaecologist faces no further action on 6 complaints
22 Jan
Summary
- Police closed six cases against a former gynaecologist.
- Thirty-six other cases against the surgeon remain under investigation.
- A report found failings and luck prevented greater harm.

Derbyshire Police have announced that no further action will be taken regarding six complaints against former gynaecologist Daniel Hay. These cases were reviewed by an expert and determined not to meet the evidential threshold for prosecution.
This decision affects six women out of a total of 36 whose cases are part of a broader police investigation into surgeries performed by Mr. Hay during the 2010s. He worked for the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust from 2005 until his retirement in 2020.
A separate report, scrutinizing his care between 2015 and 2018, identified serious failings in his practices and management. The report, commissioned after concerns from colleagues, noted that only "good fortune prevented further harm."
