Summary
- Mother accused of choking her 6-year-old daughter.
- Allegedly offered a toy to keep the incident a secret.
- Child abuse charges filed in Doña Ana County, New Mexico.
Angela Gomez Luera, a 26-year-old mother from New Mexico, was arrested on Tuesday, October 20, and charged with child abuse. The charges stem from an alleged incident where she is accused of choking her 6-year-old daughter. This event reportedly took place on October 11, the same day the child's father brought her to the Doña Ana County hospital due to redness around her neck and bruising near her eyes.
Following the alleged choking, the child reportedly went to a school nurse for an ice pack. During a subsequent interview, the girl stated her mother placed her in a chokehold until she couldn't breathe and released her only when she screamed. The victim expressed fear, believing she had died. Police estimate the choking lasted several seconds. Authorities believe Luera then offered her daughter a toy in exchange for her silence.
Luera was booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center but was released hours later. Her next court appearance is scheduled for December 2. It remains unclear if she has entered a plea or secured legal representation. The Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office has not provided further comment on the ongoing case.
