Officers from the South Brunswick Police Department responded swiftly after crash detection technology on the driver's iPhones alerted emergency services to a potential collision.
Upon arrival, officers found Safwan Islam, 26, unconscious and bleeding inside the vehicle which had begun to smoke intensely. Acting quickly, Officers Yash Shroff and Thomas Sites utilized a breacher tool to break the car windows and extricate Islam just moments before the car became fully engulfed.
Islam, who had experienced a medical episode prior to the crash on November 9th, suffered injuries to his back and neck. After a week-long hospitalization and surgery, he is reportedly recovering well at home. Police officials have lauded the officers' actions as heroic and a 'miracle.'
