NJ Tech Exec Gets Life for Family's Brutal Murder
19 May
Summary
- Man sentenced to life without parole for murdering family.
- He killed brother, sister-in-law, niece, and nephew.
- Motive linked to financial disputes and theft.

Paul Caneiro, 59, received a sentence of four life terms without parole for the 2018 murders of his brother Keith, Keith's wife Jennifer, and their two children, Sophia and Jesse. The Monmouth County judge described Caneiro as a "callous, heartless, brutal killer" who "annihilated an entire family."
Caneiro was convicted in February for fatally shooting Keith outside their Colts Neck mansion before entering and killing Jennifer, Sophia, and Jesse. He then set both the family's mansion and his own home on fire to mislead investigators. Prosecutors asserted that Caneiro was motivated by financial difficulties and a confrontation regarding $80,000 he allegedly stole from his brother's trust fund.
During the sentencing, Jennifer's mother and sister pleaded for the harshest penalty, calling Caneiro a "monster" and a "manipulative, cold-blooded killer." Despite maintaining his innocence through his attorney, the jury found Paul Caneiro guilty of murder, aggravated arson, weapons possession, and hindering apprehension.
