Lagos Court Moves to Forest Drug Lab
29 Jul
Summary
- A Nigerian judge held court in a meth lab in a forest.
- Ten suspects were arrested for producing methamphetamine.
- The bust uncovered two tons of meth worth $360 million.

In an unprecedented judicial event, a Nigerian judge conducted a court hearing within an active methamphetamine production laboratory. The makeshift court convened deep in a forest, a two-hour journey from Lagos, highlighting the extraordinary measures taken to address illicit drug manufacturing.
Justice Musa Kakaki inspected the chemicals and equipment used by ten suspects, comprising three Mexicans and seven Nigerians. The pungent smell of crystallizing methamphetamine filled the air of the clandestine facility. This operation, described by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) as the country's largest-ever meth bust, occurred in May.
The NDLEA announced the dismantling of a sophisticated Nigerian-Mexican methamphetamine syndicate. Authorities seized over two tonnes of meth, with an estimated value of $360 million (£270 million), dealing a significant blow to international drug trafficking networks.
