Siblings Drop Funding for Murder Defendant
24 Feb
Summary
- Nick Reiner's siblings no longer funding his defense.
- He faces murder charges for allegedly killing his parents.
- The death penalty remains a possibility in the case.

Nick Reiner's siblings, Romy and Jake Reiner, have reportedly ceased funding his criminal defense as he stands accused of murdering his parents. The 32-year-old pleaded not guilty in Los Angeles County Superior Court to fatally stabbing his parents on December 14. He was arrested hours after the killings and has been held without bail.
Prosecutors have confirmed the case is eligible for the death penalty. A public defender was appointed last month, and it now appears this will be his sole legal representation. Sources indicate the siblings are not involved in his defense, and there are no plans to hire private counsel.
Reiner appeared in court looking gaunt and hollow-eyed. He is due to appear again on April 29. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office is rigorously considering all circumstances for pursuing capital punishment. Legal experts suggest a mental health defense may be introduced.
It has been previously claimed Reiner dealt with mental health issues and had his schizophrenia medication switched shortly before the murders. The killings were described as brutal, with some speculating they had the markings of a meth-related incident, as Reiner allegedly used the drug at the time.
