In Ambernath, a 26-year-old newlywed woman was discovered deceased in her matrimonial home approximately one and a half months after her marriage. Her grieving family has lodged a formal complaint against her husband, Dr. Nitin Tilkar, and his relatives, accusing them of dowry harassment, physical abuse, and intrusive surveillance.
The Shivajinagar police apprehended Dr. Tilkar, his mother Chhaya Tilkar, and brother Ninad Tilkar on Wednesday. The family alleges that Vishakha Tilkar, who married Dr. Tilkar on April 30, faced escalating mental and physical torment shortly after her wedding. Despite initial cordiality, the situation reportedly deteriorated as the in-laws allegedly demanded more dowry, including additional gold and cash.
Further allegations suggest that Vishakha's husband installed CCTV cameras throughout their residence to meticulously track her daily activities. Relatives reported that she was interrogated about her movements and allegedly faced physical assault, including an incident two days prior to her death for conversing with a neighbor. She had reportedly confided in her mother about the abuse, and her family was planning to retrieve her before her untimely death.
Senior police inspector Ramesh Patil confirmed that the preliminary investigation supports the claims of CCTV surveillance and monitoring of the deceased's movements. A case has been registered against the accused for cruelty and abetment of suicide, with all three now in custody.
