A domestic violence incident in Tijeras, New Mexico, has resulted in the death of a 4-year-old boy and critical injuries to his mother and 1-year-old brother. Luis Sanchez, 41, was arrested on Tuesday, February 17, facing charges including intentional child abuse resulting in death and aggravated battery. Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting an armed man, Sanchez, at the residence around 1:18 a.m.
First responders found Sanchez, who was reportedly uncooperative but was apprehended after police deployed a Taser. The criminal complaint alleges Sanchez, naked, stated he killed his wife. A 4-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene, while the mother and her 1-year-old son were hospitalized in critical condition. The mother, an assistant district attorney, reportedly told authorities Sanchez accused her of cheating before the shooting.
Sheriff John Allen described the crime scene as one of the most horrific his deputies have encountered, calling the 911 call one of the most difficult he has ever heard. Sanchez, who had no prior criminal record, is being held without bond at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center and is scheduled for a detention hearing on February 25.
