A shocking case of familial betrayal has emerged from Karanji village, where police arrested 38-year-old Prashant Mali on Sunday. He is accused of murdering his 85-year-old maternal aunt, Vaijayanti Mali, on August 3. The victim, a childless widow, was allegedly killed by her nephew, a private cab driver, for her cash and jewelry.
Initially, Prashant Mali denied visiting his aunt or knowing her whereabouts, attempting to mislead both her family and the authorities. However, investigations, including the review of village CCTV footage, revealed him speaking to his aunt outside her home and her subsequently getting into a car with him. A kidnapping complaint was filed when suspicion of foul play grew, leading to his arrest and confession.
Police stated that Prashant admitted to murdering Vaijayanti, whom he viewed as a son, and dumping her body in an isolated area. Her remains were later recovered by the authorities. The motive was purely financial gain, seeking to acquire her valuables.
