- The shooting occurred outside the Wake County courthouse.

Two attorneys were allegedly shot outside the Wake County courthouse in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Friday, May 22, 2026. The shooter, identified as Gwendolyn White, 57, was immediately arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder.
White had reportedly been involved in a civil case against the Rolesville Police Department (RPD), seeking body camera footage from a 2021 incident. The attorneys she allegedly shot, Mary Harris and Jeffery Whitley from the Fox Rothschild law firm, were representing the RPD in this matter. Reports indicate White became belligerent in court before retrieving a gun from her car and firing at the attorneys as they exited the building.
Mary Harris was taken into surgery following the shooting, while Jeffery Whitley was reported to be in stable condition. White was also transported to the hospital after her arrest. The RPD confirmed the investigation into the shooting is ongoing. The civil case, which was dismissed in January 2026, was recently being reviewed for potential reinstatement.
