29 Aug
Summary
- Jury found a Santa Rosa man not guilty of murder in a fentanyl death.
- He was convicted on six felony drug charges, including selling fentanyl to a minor.
- The victim was a 17-year-old Napa high school student who died in May 2022.

A Napa County jury has rendered a verdict in the fentanyl-related death of a 17-year-old high school student, acquitting Alan Jazeel Martinez of murder and involuntary manslaughter charges. The jury convicted Martinez, 25, of six felony drug offenses on Thursday.
The charges stemmed from the death of Monica Flores, a senior at Vintage High School, who was found deceased in her Napa home on May 25, 2022. Prosecutors had alleged Martinez supplied her with fentanyl-laced pills on May 10 and May 16, 2022.
The convictions include two counts each of selling fentanyl to a minor, possessing fentanyl for sale, and transporting fentanyl for sale. The jury also found true an allegation of a previous strike conviction against Martinez.
The Napa County District Attorney's Office pursued murder charges, indicating this was the first such case in the county against a supplier in a fentanyl death. Co-defendants Luis Fajardo Melgoza and Erika Garcia Chavez also faced charges.
Martinez is scheduled for sentencing on September 28, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. in Napa County Superior Court. The victim's family remembered Monica Flores for her love of family, animals, and the outdoors.
